Why me?

I know what your thinking.
- Why this guy?
- What does he bring to the table?

Good question.
My career always seemed to put me right smack dab next to the owner.  Not by choice, more by the universe's doing.  In this "hot spot" so to speak, I was privy to the inter-workings of what its like being an owner.  In absorbing this mindset I became skilled in seeing a larger picture and how all departments run in synch to make a company successful.  The ability to anticipate needs, before they become issues and pivot to the best solution.

I never strived to be in “business” or have one.  My focus was to make money.
I remember completing a job and being handed money for the first time.  I must have been around 6 years old or so, but the feeling of cash in my hand grabbed my attention.  This interaction quickly taught me people pay to get out of doing tasks they didn’t want to do.  So, I made a list of what I could do for others and started telling people.  From carrying neighbor’s groceries to their kitchen, raking leaves or shoveling snow filled driveways, the neighborhood quickly knew my name.

When I wasn’t canvassing the neighborhood for jobs, I worked at the family gas station business.  This is where my education really took off!  I would stand on a milk crate washing customer’s car windows for tips.  The toughest boss anybody can have is their parents.  Their expectation of you is higher than the other employees, after all you share their name.

At the time I thought it was fun to be “working” at a real company.  During my tenure, I  learned about customer service and retention, pricing strategies, inventory management, marketing, seasonal trends, employee morale and being ready for business downturns.  You can say I was raised in business.

I’m still excited today about helping people build their business.
